Bubbly Natalie Thomas goes to work every day with a spring in her step – thanks to her job as a hotel bed tester.
Strawberry blonde Natalie, 39, heads up a team of ten ‘bouncers’ whose job it is to ensure the quality of 46,000 beds for budget chain Premier Inn.
The thousands of mattresses up and down the country take a year to test, meaning as soon as Natalie and her team have finished they have to start all over again.
Yesterday she said: ”The quality of beds is hugely important and is something Premier Inn pride ourselves on.
”I absolutely love my job and really can’t imagine doing anything else now.
”I work with an excellent team of ‘bouncers’ and we work together to bounce on every part of the bed, before testing how comfortable it is to lie and sleep on.
”Whilst we have lots of fun bouncing on beds, we take our job very seriously as making sure every guest gets a good night’s sleep is of paramount importance to us all.”
In any one day Natalie and her team test 176 beds around the UK, taking around 20 minutes on each.
Natalie, who ironically hails from Luton in BEDfordshire, wears soft trousers so she can feel even the smallest lump or bump in a mattress.
She has been with the company for three years but was promoted to head bed tester earlier this year.
Natalie and her team test on average 884 beds a week, around 177 a day taking up to 20 minutes on each bed.
They check for lumps, bumps, rips, tears and stains and faulty beds or mattresses are removed that day.
Her patch takes in the entirety of the chain’s 602 hotels and takes her from Falmouth, the southerly most hotel to Inverness in Scotland, the most northern outpost.
Natalie loves her job so much she even has a Hypnos bed like the ones in the hotel rooms at the home she shares with her partner.
The queen is known to be a fan of Hypnos beds.
Claire Haigh, spokesperson for Premier Inn said: ”We’re thrilled with the work our Director of Bed Bouncing and her team are doing.
”And we hope their hard work ensures our guests continue to have a guaranteed good night’s rest on the most comfortable beds around.”
